2026 Global Citizen Festival Canceled Due To Weather

We’ve grown to love covering the annual Global Citizen Festival over the past few years, not only due to an insane music lineup but also for its primary cause to end poverty across the world through fundraising and research.

Unfortunately, an extreme weather forecast expecting to hit New York City this weekend has forced organizers to cancel the show for 2026.

In an email sent earlier today that also coincided with a social media post not long after (seen above), reasoning was made pretty clear as to why the 2026 Global Citizen Festival would not be commencing. “Forecasts predict dangerous conditions and circumstances in which we cannot safely bring tens of thousands of Global Citizens, artists, crew, vendors, partners, and staff onto the Great Lawn, let alone all of the equipment required,” the note reads, also adding, “Safety has to come first. This is the first time in 14 years we’ve had to cancel. We have spent this week working through countless contingencies, which were ultimately not possible, and cancelling is a decision we have not taken lightly.”

Thankfully not all is lost, as Global Citizens was able to secure $208.8 million in financial commitments over the past six weeks due to 3.5 million actions that will in turn impact more than 9.5 million people. Some of the ways these commitments will help include giving more than 2 million children access to education so they can stay in school, in addition to support for smallholder farmers, women, youth and indigenous communities. For example, Ireland and Canada committed $151.6 million to educational purposes, and the farming businesses will find resources coming from Burundi, Chad, Ethiopia, Kenya, Guinea, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Zimbabwe, the Minderoo Foundation and the Green Climate Fund.

Ticketholders will be your refunded automatically, while those who made donations to secure a ticket will have the option to be refunded or allow it to process. All food that was due to be available at the Festival will also be donated to local organizations serving local New Yorkers.

While we are terribly disappointed at the outcome, we commend the higher ups at Global Citizen Festival for doing what’s right and playing it all the way safe. Until next year, we hope!
