Insomniac dropped a new patch that addresses one of its most talked-about \u201cissues,\u201d the scent trail. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No one would have thought Insomniac\u2019s latest superhero video game,\u00a0<em>Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/em>, would be one of the most polarizing games released in 2026, but it is. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Critics immediately called out the game\u2019s aggressive \u201chand-holding,\u201d which many felt kept players from exploring and discovering things on their own. Gamers also complained about quick-time events that didn\u2019t really have any consequences if you failed to complete them and on-rail motorcycle segments that people have filmed themselves completing without touching the controller. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After weeks of online banter, Insomniac dropped a patch that addresses scent trails that lead players to certain objectives and the game\u2019s collectibles, pretty much eliminating the need to explore and find them. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the patch, players can now toggle scent trails on and off; these trails lead to the whiskey bottle collectibles. You can also turn off the purple roots that lead you to Nightmare Doors. You can also turn off the audio cues for the material crates that give you currency to unlock costumes. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Story-Critical Senses Will Still Appear In The World<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the studio does say in the patch notes that \u201cstory-critical senses will still appear in the world,\u201d which means the \u201cfart trails,\u201d as coined by <em>Washington Post<\/em> journalist Gene Park, are still on and will point you to your next objective, but were nerfed after Insomniac\u2019s last big update; they are \u201cless intense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Insomniac\u2019s community and marketing director James Stevenson says that the game developer will \u201ccontinue to listen and work with the team to address feedback and requests.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am currently playing through the game, and honestly, we have no issue with the scent trailers; in fact, I think it\u2019s one of the best games featuring the popular X-Man, but that\u2019s just me. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m curious to see the game\u2019s sales numbers, but until those numbers drop, you can see reactions to the <em>Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/em> update below. <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Insomniac Games \/ Marvel\u2019s Wolverine Marvel\u2019s Wolverine has been accused of aggressive \u201chand-holding\u201d because of some of its features.
