Sitting down with DJ Misses and Incognito on Posted on the Corner, the Atlanta legend proved exactly why his catalog still hits two decades later. The hosts wasted no time setting the mood, greeting him like family and reminding everyone that “the pen still work.” Dro grinned, and the room lit up.

Twenty Years of Best Thing Smoking

The reason for the reunion? The 20-year anniversary of his debut album, Best Thing Smoking. That project turned a young dreamer from Bankhead into a household name, and looking back on it clearly meant something to him. The chemistry between Dro and the hosts felt less like an interview and more like old friends catching up on the porch.

Dro pulled the curtain back on how it all started. His first two recorded songs, “Shoulder Lean” and “Rubber Band Banks,” came from beats delivered in a “two pack” by a 14-year-old producer named Lil C. Two records that would define an era, born from a teenager’s talent. That’s Atlanta magic in a nutshell.

Then there’s the imagination. Growing up without much, Dro said the family didn’t even have a color TV. So he built his own world. “We didn’t really have no color TV back then,” he explained, “so I pictured everything in color.” That mindset gave birth to his signature style, the vivid color and food references fans quote to this day.

Of course, no Dro conversation is complete without the rose gold Escalade. After Pac Man Jones threatened to copy his look, Dro upgraded to 30-inch rose gold rims, sitting so high he could barely see the road. “I used to be running people off the street and didn’t even know it,” he laughed. “Cause I can’t drive that good… I was like, ‘I can’t see down there.’” The hosts couldn’t hold it together.

<div
