The group delivered a string of beloved R&amp;B hits, including \u201cReady or Not,\u201d \u201cHeat of the Moment,\u201d and \u201cTil You Do Me Right.\u201d Their sound\u2014polished, romantic, and unmistakably soulful\u2014became a staple of the genre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1999, Kevon stepped out on his own with his solo debut, <em>24\/7<\/em>, scoring a major hit with the title track. He followed it years later with his sophomore album, <em>Who Knew<\/em>, in 2009. Kevon knew the risk going in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI did something pretty daring, and that was to do a cover of Sade\u2019s \u2018No Ordinary Love,&#8217;\u201d he told Jasmine. When she pointed out that Sade is \u201cthe queen of everything,\u201d he didn\u2019t disagree. It\u2019s a respectful tribute that still bears his signature.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Does Going Solo Feel Like After Years in a Group?<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For most of his career, Kevon sang with someone to his left or right. It\u2019s why you\u2019re here. I feel like it does such a tremendous disservice not only to the universe, but to the God who gave it to you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a message that resonates well beyond the recording booth: use your gift fully, while you still have it.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Did Kevon Say About the BET Awards\u2019 26-Year Legacy?<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conversation also celebrated the BET Awards reaching their 26th year\u2014a milestone Kevon clearly respects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s not often that we have something that lasts so long and is still so good,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Jasmine asked how he\u2019d handle the show if it were in his hands, his answer was simple: keep it going. The gatekeeping of the past has loosened, and Kevon sees that as a good thing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSocial has done a tremendous job of allowing people who, at one time or another, if you were outside of that loop\u2026 you could not get in,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd now it\u2019s wide open.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His key observations on the new landscape:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Labels aren\u2019t required.<\/strong> \u201cYou may not even need a label if you know what you\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>No more brick-and-mortar gatekeepers.<\/strong> Artists can build careers directly with their audiences.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The new generation is focused and driven.<\/strong> \u201cA lot of these young kids, they got a handle. Focused, and they are aggressive. They are seeking out what they desire. And I\u2019m not mad at it.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coming from an artist who broke through in the traditional label era, that openness toward today\u2019s independent talent is refreshing\u2014and encouraging for anyone chasing a creative dream.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is Kevon Edmonds Releasing a Full Album?<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The question on every fan\u2019s mind: is more music coming? Jasmine pushed for it, even offering to write him a few songs herself.
