Fans know him as Marvin Thomas, the volatile fan favorite from Power Book III: Raising Kanan. Others remember him as Reggie from Ballers. Comedian, actor, impressionist, podcaster, and proud advocate for Black youth,\u00a0London Brown<\/strong>\u00a0wears plenty of hats, though he\u2019d probably tell you he\u2019s just trying to stay employed.<\/p>\n

With the fifth and final season of\u00a0Raising Kanan<\/em>\u00a0arriving June 12, Brown chopped it up with Radio\/TV personality\u00a0Jazmyn Summers<\/strong>\u00a0for Radio One about Marvin\u2019s emotional reckoning, vengeance, stand-up comedy, his viral Instagram bio, relationships, and the surprisingly wholesome reason he\u2019ll never forget working with\u00a0Dwayne Johnson.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jaz: Everybody\u2019s counting down to the final season of\u00a0Raising Kanan<\/em>. What should fans expect?<\/strong><\/p>\n

London Brown:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cLots of plot twists because our writers are really, really good for that sort of thing. More cameos. I think a lot of questions that people have had throughout the seasons, we finally get to come around to answering them.\u201d<\/p>\n

He says Season 5 is packed with \u201cemotionally driven heartfelt scenes\u201d and promises viewers will finally understand the roots of many of the Thomas family conflicts.<\/p>\n

\u201d People are going to really be excited. They\u2019re going to understand why and how all these characters have come to be. What was the root? The Thomas family issues go way back to our parents when our father committed suicide. They finally are going to get addressed in season five.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

I think this season is a really good popcorn movie night. It\u2019s going to be good, man.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jaz: Marvin has been through therapy, betrayal, family drama and plenty of chaos. Where do we find him this season?<\/strong><\/p>\n

London Brown:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cMarvin is getting to a place where he has been fed up throughout the seasons.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brown says Marvin genuinely tried to become a better man after entering therapy, but being crossed changed everything.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople can expect to see another side of Marvin that they haven\u2019t seen before.\u201d<\/p>\n

That doesn\u2019t necessarily mean more jokes.<\/p>\n

Instead, Brown says audiences will finally understand what\u2019s been driving Marvin all these years.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are going to feel compelled and they\u2019re going to understand why Marvin has been moving the way he\u2019s been moving.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jaz: So\u2026 should viewers prepare for vengeance?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Absolutely.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the audience is going to enjoy riding along with Marvin as he seeks vengeance.\u201d<\/p>\n

And if fans have been frustrated by Kanan\u2019s attitude?<\/p>\n

Marvin has heard you.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve seen Kanan be a little disrespectful to his mom and other people. I know the fans have been saying somebody need to give him a belt. So don\u2019t worry about that. We\u2019re going to answer those questions.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked who\u2019s handing out the belt, Brown didn\u2019t hesitate:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Marvin\u2019s going to be giving the belt to anybody and everybody who\u2019s been crossing him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jaz:\u00a0 Do cast members know all the big surprises and cameos before fans do?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Not necessarily.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t watched the show and we shoot out of order.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brown explained that filming, editing, deleted scenes and separate storylines mean he often discovers developments alongside the audience.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s some things in the show that I find out from the fans of the show because they tell me.\u201d<\/p>\n

His reaction?<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m eating my popcorn talking to them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jaz: Fans voted Marvin the funniest character on the show. Does that surprise you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A little.<\/p>\n

\u201cMarvin is not the comic relief.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brown says the humor comes from Marvin simply being himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhatever humorous ideas that the audience feels about Marvin, it\u2019s just Marvin being Marvin. He\u2019s not trying to be funny. He\u2019s just living in his truth.\u201d<\/p>\n

And yes, Marvin\u2019s love of food may not be entirely fictional.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the food is good, I\u2019ll enjoy it.\u201d<\/p>\n
